Plein Air Painters of Hiawassee

49th Annual Helen to the Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Race & Festival  

Helen, GA. The South’s oldest balloon event will begin with a mass ascension of 30 colorful hot air balloons. Balloonists compete in local events Thursday evening beginning around 6pm thru Saturday. Union County Fourth of July Boat Parade
Blairsville, GA. TThe annual Union County Fourth of July Boat Parade will take place again at Lake Nottely Marina. Boats can be decorated in any theme they wish. Several creative boats are presented trophies, with a grand prize also awarded. Boats should line up at Lake Nottely Marina beginning around 11:00a.m. – 11:30a.m. Boats will pass in review beginning at 11:30a.m., then trophies will be awarded. Miner’s Homecoming
Ducktown, TN. Miners Homecoming is an annual event presented by the City of Ducktown along with others. It combines traditional 4th of July activities (fireworks 7/4 at 9:30) with events honoring the heritage of copper mining and the related industries. The venues shift around the town throughout the two days. These range from music, parades, games, reunions and fireworks. Food is available from local organizations and vendors over the two days. Benton McKaye Trail Association Hikes 

BMTA normally schedules four or five hikes per month, some “leisure” hikes that are shorter and easier and some 5 to 8 miles and of moderate difficulty. In addition, we have occasional backpacking hikes and more difficult ones that might be called “hardy hikes.” Occasionally we co-sponsor hikes with other organizations. Some, but not all, of our hikes are “dog friendly.” Although more hikes are in Georgia than the other states, you will find hikes in all three BMT states: Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
