Rain! Rain! Rain! Hot! Hot! Hot! Geez, it feels like I live in a rain forest! While my heavy tree cover helps with the high temps it also tends to hold the moisture in as well. For days my deck was a slippery sea of green slime, now we’re baking in heat bordering on a drought. Climate change much? Luckily the nights have been cool so that I can leave my windows open and hear the summer night songs of tree frogs and every single insect from here to Florida. Peace.
Due to this heat, hiking with the dogs happens EARLY. I have to admit that there have been a few hot & lazy afternoons when Maxine, Billy and myself took to napping in front of the fan with a good book. I think this just might be the definition of “summer” in the mountains.
You can also cool off out of doors enjoying our many rivers, creeks, streams and lakes– tubing, rafting, boating, and swimming– all within easy reach to locals and visitors alike. Get out early, hike to the perfect waterfall and spend the day!
For those looking to relocate to the area, Old Toccoa Farm offers great “Stay & Play” packages for you to take your time and explore our little corner of the universe. Rent Ambleside Cottage on the OTF property or one of many well appointed cabins nearby. Once you experience their hospitality, you’ll never want to leave.
Rainy day or any day- a visit to Green Acres 515 in Jasper, GA is a must do shopping stop. You’ll find Farm and Lodge home décor, accessories, folk art, and unique gifts. Bring your BFFs- take an art or decorating class, what fun!
As summer eventually winds down, we get ready for fall, yessiree. You’ll find the most complete listing of Fall Festivals and Fairs in and around north Georgia in this issue. We then look forward to the changing of the leaves and our October/November issue featuring all things fall, apple and pumpkin. There’s plenty to do for just about everyone. It’s your time to explore!
So maybe we’ll see you out there. Hint: The Blues & BBQ Festival is my birthday weekend!
